Inauguration day

There's no point in going to bed.

It's almost 5AM in jolly old Oxford and I'm typing away on my revised essay for International Law. It serves me right for not reading the subtext of the prompt that stated not to use the Law of the Seas. Damn it. Haha. Oh well, prior to this rewriting of my paper, we went balls out for the inauguration.

Today was one for the history books. I wish I could've been in Washington, D.C. Considering I'm across the pond, I settled for watching the inauguration on my laptop via CNN's live feed. I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to watch President (!!!) Obama's swearing in because several of us had to meet with our International Organizations don this evening, but the timing turned out fine. I got chills as President Obama was sworn in. It seemed like even he was nervous, which made him all the more human and personable and awesome. I digress.

His speech. Dear God. It was phenomenal. I was moved to tears.

The bitter Republicans need to shut the hell up because we've had to endure Bush for eight miserable years. The fact that most of them still support his policies is beyond me. I don't understand how they can defend his choices and say that we dirty Democrats are placing blame on the wrong person. (Granted, Cheney was running the show a lot, but that was Bush's fault for letting it be that way.)

One of the greatest things about being in the U.K. is that there are more liberal (in the American sense, anyway) people than there are in Georgia. There are definitely more Obama supporters here than in Georgia, as well. I've gotten so many random people complimenting my Obama/Biden button and yelling, "Go Obama!"

After meeting the International Organizations don, Kelli, Adam, and I headed toward town to grab dinner. We ate at Bella Italia (which we didn't realize was a chain, haha), where Kate met up with us. Then we headed to a bar called Kukui, where they hosted an inauguration luau. It was a lot of fun. But because I'd eaten pasta prior to hitting the bar, I couldn't get drunk. I was still sober! Not after 10+ shots, a Long Island, and a jagerbomb. Sad. But fine, considering we still got our dance on and had a good time. Kelli and Kate were obliterated, haha. I feel bad, though, because we left Kelli's green sweater there. We'll go back tomorrow to see if it's still there. I hope it is.

Regardless.

Today was great. Even with a tutorial in the morning. I was speed-walking this morning because I woke up late and had 25 minutes to get to the St. Cross Building/the law library, which is a mile and a half away from the house. After the tutorial, I finally got a fleece blanket at Boswell's to use instead of the feather duvet that made my whole body look like one giant eczema rash. Haha.

I look forward to seeing President Obama put his policies into action.

The fact that we no longer have to call W the president or Cheney the vice president is pretty fantastic, too.
